Help - how to stop 6 month old biting when feeding!

Hoping someone can help!

My ds is 6 months old and is ebf - last few days he has started biting my nipples when he's feeding - it's excrutiating!!! He is teething and biting everything he puts in his mouth at the moment, but i can't carry on like this. Was planning to stop bf around this age, but then was going well so i had decided to carry on, but if he carries on with this, he's straight on the bottle!

Any suggestions?

My DD started biting at about 9 months.
DS starting biting about 7, but luckily didn't have any teeth yet. It still hurt though!

With DD I simply stopped feeding immediately and dumped her on the floor rather unceremoniously and said 'No' very sternly. She soon learned that biting meant no feed and no cuddle. It lasted a few days and then stopped.
Even at that age, they are not too young to learn. He will soon stop.
Good luck.

Nipple shields help some people, or just the flat teats off the closer to nature bottles if you happen to have some lying around.

What RuthChan said - I took DS off and told him 'biting hurts'.

Kellymom has more info.

DS went through a phase of this - once he caught me out and I shrieked like a banshee. I think I scared him because it didn't happen again for a while. When it did I reacted strongly and immediately took him off with a firm "no biting" and wouldn't let him back on for a while.

This technique did work although it took a while to completely cure him of it.
