Laparoscopy and bf

Hi all. I am having a laparoscopy (due to endo) on Wednesday. It is a simple day case and will be in hospital for few hours then home to rest. I am still bf my 7 month old, although have started weaning so he has 3 'meals' a day. My question is, if anyone can help, is how does general anaesthetic affect bf? My surgery is at 11am, so will givd DS feed before I go to theatre. How long before I will be able to feed again? I wa thinking I should be ok by the evening, or do I need to leave it longer?

TIA

virgo, check with the anaesthetist, but usually, you can bf as soon as you are conscious. If you are awake, the anaesthetic is not in your blood (otherwise you'd not be conscious) and if it is not in your blood it is not in your milk. Mothers bf as soon as coming round from a GA after a section, with tiny newborns :)

There's a factsheet here www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/drugs-in-breastmilk-information-and-factsheets.html to help when you speak to the doc.
