Bobbing on and off the breast. Help!

Can anyone help me with this one. Dd is 10 weeks old and for the last few weeks has been having a difficult feed at 8pm after bath time and before bed. She feeds really well throughout the day however at 8pm she seemed restless on the boob and bobs on and off it for anywhere up to an hour. I try putting her down but she starts rooting for food. Last night I stopped the feed after 50 mins of the same and then she wouldn't settle in bed, again, something that doesn't happen at any other feed but always does at this one. I'm resisting formula at the moment but if anyone has any advice on why this is happening and how I resolve it I'd really appreciate it. Feeds are 3 hours apart in the day, sometimes 2 depending on her awake time and as yet, we've not offered bottles of expressed milk at all. Thanks

My dd often does this. Think it is quite normal though v annoying. Think often dd does it when tired.

When you say she bobs off the breast, what do you mean? Is she feeding well, taking a break, feeding some more? How long is she on the breast each time? When she comes off, is she unhappy? Asleep? What?

How are your nipples? And is she otherwise fine? (Got some wrinkles of fat at the wrists and ankles, growing and developping?)

Hi, she comes off after appearing to feed well and then goes back on again and does this for about an hour. The start of the feed is normal with her in the boob for 10 mins with no problems. She seems to be feeding every time she goes back on however my nipples can be sore and a bit dry at the end of the feed.She's definitely a healthy weight and it is just the 8pm feed where it happens.

This sounds pretty normal - maybe she is cluster-feeding, trying to fill her tanks for the night? Are you swapping breasts each time she pops off? That can help with supply.

If your nipples are sore, it's maybe worth looking into latch?

Lanolin-based creams can be good for dry nipples, but don't solve underlying latch issues. The milk from the end of the feed is also very greasy and can help sooth nipples.

i had this esp in the eve, worked out with help of a lactation consultant that when dd got wriggly she was windy. Looking to boob for comfort meant more milk and worse problem. We started taking her off when she wrigggled and giving her something else to suck on (dummy or finger) and it calmed her right down straightaway, she just wanted to suck not drink more.

Might not be your issue but babes can get plenty of milk in 10mins so may be worth a try.

Ds will feed very frequently in the evenings, if he can't then he wakes more at night, there is a risk if you distract her she will be wanting her feed in the night or her weight gain will slow. I just keep ds in my lap on the sofa of an evening. He'll snooze wnd feed as needed and I don't need to keep trying to settle him.
