Sore nipple during feeding?

Does anyone else get sore nipples at certain times of their cycle?

The last few months there has been a point each month for about a week when it's been really painful to feed DS, like when we first started. My let down is really painful then as well.

Is this normal? Looking at his latch, it sems ok, he's taking a lot of nipple and my nipples arent sore or split after he's finished. He's 6 months now.

If you have noticed a monthly pattern then it could well be due to hormones. Another problem that might be occuring is nipple thrush (which I have at the moment) which makes feeding so sore. That would be with you pretty much constantly though. I have to say that I have never experienced monthly soreness but have during this pregnancy which is related to hormones I think.

I dont it's thrush as DS has no white in his mouth and there is no deep pain in the breast.

I was thinking hormones too, but just wondered about other ppl's experience really...

Deep pain in the breast only occurs when thrush really takes a hold. You can 'only' have the sore nipples for months. DS has never had white in his mouth even though I've had thrush a few times and got it quite bad once (deep pain in breast) so don't rely on that as an indicator. DS never had any symptoms, not all babies do. But it does sound more like a hormonal thing to me.

I have had deep breast pain with definitely no thrush. It also seems to come and go on a monthly basis, so i think it may be related to hormones, too. I found ibuprofen gel brilliant - far better than ibuprofen pills.

Haggis- The deep breast pain alone is unlikely to be thrush then. When you have thrush there is no mistaking the pain.
