Meal replacement diet whilst breastfeeding.

I'm keen to drop some excess fat but am breastfeeding. All the meal replacements say not whilst breastfeeding (want to use Tesco specifically) however I can't find any ingredients in the product which will harm a b/f baby. Surely as long as whilst breastfeeding I supplement the diet with lots of fruit and veg then it will be fine?

I'm just rubbish at portion control so these diets work for me when I have some extra weight to shift.

Does anyone know of any ingredients in these products which can harm the baby thru breastmilk?

You could try Complan (www.complanfoods.com/complan_weightmanagement.php), I'm planning on using it for those times when you just don't get to eat with a newborn! Actually recommended for pregnancy and new mums here (in NZ), so could be worth a try?

Hmm

it's because they're extreme weight loss programmes - they're not particularly good for you at the best of times, nevermind when you're breastfeeding

it places a strain on your body, can reduce your milk supply and there are studies that show that it causes more environmental toxins to remain in your milk

if you can't wait until you have stopped breastfeeding, the guidelines are that you diet gradually, sensibly and not to go under 1800 calories

Thanks Tabulahrasa, I don't intend to go below 1500 as I said I will be supplementing the meals with fruit and veg so if the only threat is nutrition then I will be fine just worried that the replacement meals contained stuff that was bad for the baby.

You can do weight watchers when breastfeeding.

you can also do slimming world and you don't need to worry about portion control. Can eat stacks and satisfy those bf hunger pangs. I lost the excess 1.5 stone on 3.5 months with ds and the 9.5 lb in 4 weeks with dd.

I'm doing Weight Watchers and they give you loads of extra points while you are BFing. I`m not hungry and am losing (very early days). They also go on about other stuff you need while BFing (oils, veg, vitamins etc.)
