Pholcodine and breatsfeeding

Have been taking pholcodine for a couple of days as I have a dreadful cough

DD has since been really unsettled and hyper - she won't settle at bedtime and she is still going strong at 9 pm (never happened before)

Any link to the medicine or just coincidence?

I tried googling but couldn't find anything definitive about use of cough medicines - feel rubbish so may take a trip to the walk in centre

'There is no information available as to whether the drug is excreted in breast milk, but it is unlikely to be harmful to the infant'

This is from the manufacturers leaflet for pholcodine linctus, hth.

It is one of the few things that BF women are generally allowed to take for coughs.

My GP said it was ok to take when I had a cough and was bfing.

However, if you are unsure about any drug you can phone one of the bfing helplines and they can tell you.

Have decided not to take any more

Am dosed on honey and lemon - DD is less wired this morning

A bit of whisky - gargling that can really help too, I find. Glad she's less wired.
