How to stop breastfeeding?

What's the most painless way to stop breastfeeding? I've been dropping feeds for about three weeks and am now only feeding at bedtime, once at night and on waking, and my boobs are not responding very well :( would it be easiest to go cold turkey and just wait for all badness to pass? I can't go on like this, it's driving me nuts.
And will they ever get smaller? Pleeeeeease tell me that they will!

What age is your DC?

With DD I just stopped. I had been winding feeds down to one a day. She didn't notice, she was about 14 months.

DS was 22 months when I stopped. I went away for a long weekend and didn't bf him when I came back. He asked once and got a bit upset, but soon forgot.

Both far less painful than I thought.

She's nearly 8mo and very happy with formula/solids/paper, she's not fussy!

I am going back to work so have to drop daytime feeds and I would like my boobs back tbh, she claws at me and they are a ridiculous size (wearing 32I/J), the thought of wearing an underwired bra again is like the thought of winning the lotto :)

sorry, to clarify I don't think baby will mind, it's me I'm asking for, is it painful and for how long? And should I expect the ridiculous no-bra-can-contain-them situation that happened when my milk first came in?
