Skin is like a rhino's

Seriously. It has never been so dry and some areas are really like a rhino's hide. I am sure this is to do with bfing - I am trying to drink as much as possible, but clearly not enough! Anyone else have this??

A lot of people have dry skin at this time of the year, due mainly to central heating.

I'm not sure what makes you think it is bfing? How old is your baby?

Dehydration! He is 7 weeks.

Do you feel thirsty? Are you weeing normal amounts?

Dark urine is a sign of dehydration.

Women who have access to plenty of water would not normally become dehydrated due to bfing - that would be very unusual. It's generally only women who do not have access to clean plentiful water and who live in hot countries who are more at risk of becoming dehydrated.

I do remember after giving birth my skin changed a lot - it was temporary - and I think it was down to hormones. That and the central heating drying out your skin.

Camper, my hands are a disgrace! The skin on my knuckles even split due to being so dry. I'm bf as well and DS is 5 months. I think it's probably due to more washing than usual coupled with the cold weather and central heating. Am trying to moisturise them all the time but never seem to quite manage it! Always put estee lauder mani and pedi on at night. That used to be enough but not anymore [sigh].

Ah, yes, my hands. Was the same with DS1 - all the washing triggers eczema for me and it has happened again! Belgo, yes I am really thirsty, but I am not really dehydrated. Maybe it's a post pg thing too (and the heating!).

oh yes that's true about the hand washing, after all the nappies!

If you are prone to eczema it;'s great you are bfing because that should limit that chances of your baby getting eczema.
