Hello, How long did you all breast feed for? my wee one is 9 months and am thinking i could stop breast feeds around a year.
Can't wait to burn these bloody nursing bras! but not sure if a year is too soon.
My eldst was bottle fed and I'm sure she stopped taking formla about then.
Any advice? x

Thats very cool tanmu82!!

Lol at the Grin I do think people realising that some people breast feed for longer than 6 months normalises it tho.

When I 1st started I thought 6 months was the most you aimed for, wish I'd had this site for info then! It gives you a different perspective when you "know" other people who BF for a bit longer, makes you feel less alone iykwim :)I'm guessing I've got about another year of feeding ds, but its down to him so maybe I can beat some of your totals!!! KAQ - I also thought you only bf for 6 months and then started solids the day after finishing bfing when I started Confused.

If all the DDs feed for 3.6 years (which I doubt that they will all wean in the same timeframe) then I will have nursed for 126m I really shouldn't have worked that out Grin

It's really strange because part of me would like to stop now, but the other part of me really doesn't want to. The thought of bfing a 5yo is a bit odd to me though...

66 months in total for me so far!

tanmu82 · 09/12/2010 16:13

I'm aiming for 6 months - I'm not sure how I feel yet about continuing after that (I bf dd1 for 7 1/2 tho).....I know that I have no plans to continue longer than 1 year, but we'll see how I feel if I even last that long!

Gah! I never win competitions. (pencils in to keep feeding DD3 until she's 5 just to catch up)

mawbroon · 09/12/2010 21:22

5yrs and 1month continuously. I have 2 DSs

Ds2 is 9 months so if he feeds as long as ds1 then it would be almost 10 years in total, assuming I donm't have a DC3!!!

I moved onto my normal underwired bras (Anita and Freya are favourites) at about a year and a little bit. (I think) Just scooped boob out of top of bra! The Freya one (Pollyanna) I liked best is incredibly forgiving and never distorted.

I have just been bf bra shopping for DS2 and am happily wearing in a Panache bra, which is fantastic! Black and lacy, not wired but very good profile. Got it from Bravissimo. So if your main reason is to get out of the horrible bras, please have a look at what else is out there. Smile

I aimed initially at 6 months, then a year, and then realised we were going to do this as long as DS and I both wanted to. Grin I finally stopped at 2 years and 2 months, partly because I was 6 wks pregnant and a bit worried about sore nipples, but DS was essentially ready and we did it very gently. He is showing signs of wanting to join in on the boobage when I talk to him about how his new baby brother will feed, though. Hmm

theresapotatoundermysink To be honest I'd not thought about it. It's just when DS2 was born it made sense to me to get BM into my older son. I guess as long as I can/am lactating. I like the idea of sharing my antibodies :)
