Combining Domperidone and fenugreek

Hi,

My midwife perscribed Domperidone for me yesterday due to my milk being slow to come in, leaving DS unsatisfied (he is now eight days old).

The midwife also mentioned that fenugreek may help with this problem. Can I can safely combine the two to encourage breast milk production? Does anyone have any experience of this or any other recommendations?

Also, DS has not done a pooh since the early hours of Sunday morning (we're topping him up with formula when he's not 100% satisifed with breast feeding). Any thoughts on this as we're getting a little worried!

I dont know about the fenugree, i bought some but they looked like horse tranquilizers so decided expressing frequently to build supply would be best for me.

A friend of mine was using SMA but baby constipated all the time and ended up on meds. She changed to Aptamil and hasnt been constipated since.

Fenugreek worked for my but no experience of domperidone. I had to take 4 lots of 3 tablets a day to get a decent increase in supply. Apparently you know you have the right dosage when you start to smell of it! How's the domperidone going? Was thinking of asking my consultant for a prescription. HTH

I used Domperidone to boost supply with DD as I was very ill after birth and couldn't try BF till she was 7 days old. It worked a treat within a week, but carried it on for about 4 weeks.
I wouldn't try anything else atm. Also feed loads to try and increase supply. Top up baby with an ounce of formula after feeding from you if needed, but rest assured you should be able to feed loads and frequently.
I also found block feeding helped (DD had reflux as well), only feed from 1 side for a 2hr period, then swap sides. At least that way, you know baby is getting more of the better hindmilk and not loads of watery foremilk. Hope this helps.

Five is, what is block feeding? Do you mean feed solidly for 2 hours on 1 breast then swap and feed for another 2?

fenugreek did nothing for me and I.was taking 2 every few hours and yes, I stank of it.
went on domperidone and it worked in almost 24 hours and changed my life. no more top ups. no more expressing after every feed to increase supply and getting no where. your lucky you got the prescription so fast, I had to pump every 3 hours for 3 weeks to try and increase naturally before I could get one.

I drank red bush tea to try and increase my supply. I really thought it worked. And is quite nice- you can get it at most supermarkets and drink it with milk. One or two cups a day was enough.

And it means you have to make time for a cuppa. Not always easy with a wee one!

I thought block feeding was what you do if you're concerned about problems with oversupply, not undersupply?

I had a breast reduction so was always looking for ways to boost supply. I did the opposite of block feeding - making sure I offered both sides at each feed, and sometimes, during really long feeds, swapping again if necessary (ensuring that some time had passed since daughter was actively swallowing).

I did take fenugreek but I'm not sure if that itself did anything.
