Ihave a bottle that's been out for 2 and a half hours. Can I give it to my 6 week old or not not?

Thanks

I personally wouldnt. I'd make a fresh one.

Ineedsomesleep · 29/11/2010 08:36

OP, would you drink milk that had been left out for that long? Know I wouldn't.

izzybiz · 29/11/2010 08:37

No, I think you have an hour once the bottle has been made/warmed.

EmmaBemma · 29/11/2010 08:38

I would drink milk that'd been out that long but formula is different to normal milk, and can harbour two particularly nasty strains of bacteria (salmonella and enterobactor) which multiply quickly at room temperature. An hour max is what I'd be comfortable with.

TheGrumpalo · 29/11/2010 08:40

No way, I wouldn't drink it so wouldn't consider giving it to baby either!

tabouleh · 29/11/2010 08:42

No you should not.

You obviously had doubts or you wouldn't have posted.

How did you prepare the bottle?

Have you been given guidance on safe preparation of formula.

I am on iPod so can't link but on my profile are some links to some leaflets.

NoTeaForMe · 29/11/2010 10:32

I prepared the bottle according to the depatment of health guidelines. They say you can use the bottle within 2 hours not 1hour though, and I'm pretty sure it says that on the side of the formula box too, only asked because it's only slightly over. I didn't give it to her. I threw it and gave a fresh one.

Thanks for your advice.

It does say 2 hours on the box but I'm pretty strict about sticking to that time.

Ineedsomesleep · 29/11/2010 10:36

I think that if it does say 2 hours you should use that as a maximum. Its a bit like giving medicine, 5ml is 5ml, you wouldn't give 10 mls.
