Stupid question about formula feeding

Can i make up formula with boiling water, then cool it down in the fridge?

Why do you have to boil water then let it cool, i would have thought boiling water would kill more bacteria?

I can't find much info on google.

It can denature the proteins in the milk

hth

It will denature the proteins in the milk, but proteins are denatured as soon as they hit your stomach, so i didnt think it would make a difference nutritionally.

No, but the milk will be clumpy and hard and unpleasant to drink (I am guessing, I have not actually done this)

I did this and didn't had any problems with consistency but I'm not sure if it breaks down some of the added vitamins or not (probably read that on Mumsnet so I can't back it up either way). I would probably try to aim for nearer 70 if it was for a younger baby but not sure if that's based in fact at all (I only FFed from 10-12 months).

You shouldn't put hot stuff in the fridge as it will raise the temperature of your fridge and may affect other foods etc in there. Cool it in cold water then put in fridge. Don't know about the boiling - prob just safer and not necessary for it to be boiling.

it's such a faff!

grumpy, had no sleep.

The theory is that 1lt of water boiled in a kettle and left to cool for half an hour will be 70 deg c.

70deg is a compromise.

It will not kill all of the bacteria present in the folmula powder.

But it will kill enough for it to be safe (if used quickly or cooled quickly and used soon after)

Boiling water would kill more bacteria but would destroy more nutrients.

"It will denature the proteins in the milk, but proteins are denatured as soon as they hit your stomach, so i didnt think it would make a difference nutritionally" tbh i don't quite understand this statment but wouldn't it make eating any protien pointless Confused

Re putting in the fride I have heard that modern fridges handle warm things well so put it straight in but make sure it is right at the back where it is coolest. Never in the door.
