my wee one is 26 wks and i think he gets about 18oz a day. he is bright and alert and very nosey with plenty of wet nappies but to me he looks quite pale. maybe im just being paranoid with him being on solids i try to keep a note but i find it hard with him being b/f

Sorry, babyrose, do you mean he is bottle fed or breastfed?

Have you asked your HV about his paleness? She may be able to assure you there is nothing wrong - lots of babies are pale. If they are pale and ill, or pale and underfed, there would be other symptoms.

sorry breast fed, i seen my hv a wk ago but she never said anything. he always seems healthy and bright. im only roughly guessing that he is getting 18oz, maybe im just worrying to much as he is on 3 meals a day now.

But how can you tell, roughly or any other way, that he is getting 18 oz a day?! :)

He's healthy and bright you say - and if he's thriving, the HV has made no comment, and you are bf him when he wants/needs it, then you're both doing ok, yes?

babyrose · 26/11/2010 11:40

as i said its a rough guess, i know what i get when i express and am just putting the rough guess to 18oz.

Aha!

Expressing is a very poor guide to how much your baby takes - a well-fed, expertly :) breastfeeding and thriving baby probably takes rather more than his/her mother can express. A baby who is not bf very well may take less.

No one should ever judge their bf by what they get when expressing - seriously.

that makes me feel better knowing babies can get more than expressing! thanks smile
