burping help

help needed, 16wk old bf. ok with burps during day but at night sometimes will not no mater what i do. don't want to wake her up either.

problem is that sometimes when i put her down after night feed without burping she will not settle at all and keeps lifting legs and bringing them up it can go on and on ...

any advice appreciated thanks

try gripe water. during the day before a couple feeds. i use it when dd gets a bit spitty which happens when she's suffering trapped wind.

Used to walk up and down stairs with DS. He'd often burp spectacularly. NOT recommended if you're sleep-deprived though!

Do you hold her up to your shoulder and pat her back? Try rubbing it from her bottom up to her shoulders, applying a bit of pressure. Works for my ds and doesn't wake him.

sfxmum, i find that sometimes just making her sit up (holding under chin and hand in small of back so she's upright) and keeping her in that position works! Make sure she's pretty straight not hunchede and it may just work itself up.

ds has this problem and i lay him down for about 30 seconds and when i sit him up he usually does a big burp. if he doesnt do it 1st time round he will eventually after a few tries.

just out of interest not that i am impatiant or anything but at what age can u stop winding them?

usually when they can turn round, look at you lovingly and then let off a massive burp in your face Jodie!! (Thats what happened to me anyway)

Its when they can bring wind up themselves. They seem to no longer fuss after a feed, and you can leave them to get on with belching on the floor whilst playing with toys. Think DS was about 6 months (maybe a bit more) when I stopped religiously winding him.

usually i have not trouble but when i do... well you all know what lack of sleep is like.

you are right normally i just let her be after she lets go of nipple then slowly put on my shoulder, that alone will usually do the trick along with gentle rubbing.
sometimes if she starts crying i will pat and that usually means massive burp.

i just feel like she needs to burp after night feeds. if she does not its the constant 'jumpimp' this seldom escalates to full blown crying but she clearly looks unconfortable and i feel guilty ignoring it
