loosing confidence in bf'ing my 2 week old

LO is 15 days old, so i know he's still brand new but im starting to loose confidence in my bf'ing. it has been going really well, he was 8'13 when born and when weighed at 13 days he's now over 10 pounds, and he hadnt lost any weight when first weighed by mw's.

problem is over the past few days he keeps pulling off the breast and getting himself so worked up he cant re latch and nothing seems to soothe him. he's also started throwing up quite curdy looking stuff rather than theliquid he was regurgitating earlier on. is this normal or does this sound like he could be having feeding problems? Just feelso awful when he's crying like a banshee and i dont know why.

Call one of the bf lines and talk to someone - ask them if they think it could be 'over-supply'....I'm not saying it deffo is, but it might be, and it is totally easy-as-pie to fix :)

Your milk might be coming out too fast for him to keep up with. I had a similar problem too. Have you tried expressing a little bit (just for a few seconds after your milk has let down). Then put him on and see if he manages better.

Yes - good point, MaryLou. Over-active let down is a feature of over-supply, too.

Over Supply? How does that happen? every single MW and HV thats been to see me has emphasised the importance of demand feeding to build up supply so how do you end up with over supply?

Will try the expressing idea though, i have noticed that he often coughs and splutters particularly on one side with the let down

I don't know if you have this (over supply) - but it's worth discussing.

Some women are bounteous, generous, waterfalls. They (sometimes colossally) over-produce as if their body thinks it has given birth to twins or more. It's just a variation in physiology, like some people have unusually big feet :)

Normally, of course, the baby and mother need to work in harmony to build up and maintain a good supply - just as you've been told.

But in your case (maybe) your body is doing 90 per cent of the work :)

That's an amazing weight gain in ten days and coupled with the fussing and bring milk up, it could point towards that. But as Tiktok says, give one of the bf helplines a call and chat it over.
