My newborn seems to be taking the majority of her feeds through the night. How much is normal and how can i get her to take more during the day? We've been feeding on demand as recommended by the midwife etc.

It sounds like she might have her days and nights mixed up at the moment. It is pretty common in really little ones to do this. She might also just be one of those babies that doesnt "demand" as such until she is absolutely ravenous and cant sleep.

If i was you i would start offering her a bottle every 2 hours. If she displays hungry signs before that then obviously feed her, but if she doesn't then offer every 2 hours and see if she will take it. If she isnt that enthusiastic on the 2 hour intervals try spacing it out by 30 minutes and see if she is more willing.

Newborns don't know the difference between day and night, but it's never too early to get your baby learning the difference. Keep night feeds nice and calm and quiet, minimal eye contact and talking, lights dimmed etc, and the opposite for day time feeds - lights on, chat to her etc. In a few weeks you might find that she'll be taking more of her feeds during the day.
