I haven't been here for ages, but I just wanted to drop in and say how invaluable this site is and how helpful you all were during the early months of breastfeeding DD2 who is now 18 months.
I really struggled with breastfeeding my first bub and always regretted not making it past the 3 month mark; so this time around I decided I would do everything I could to feed DD2 as long as I could.
At first it was so painful and difficult I went hour to hour; but thanks to you lot - and a very helpful lactation consultant at my local hospital - I made it to 3 weeks, then 6 weeks, then bloody hell, 14 months had passed.
Last week DD2 turned a year and a half, and after intermittant bfing for the previous month or so, came to me, climbed onto my lap, pulled up my shirt and tried to latch on. She had a go on one side, but couldn't quite get into the right position, then tried the other, but kept nibbling at my nipple rather than latching on properly. In the end, she obviously got annoyed that her beloved boobs weren't working like they used to and toddled off to find something else to do. I realised she'd actually forgotten how to latch on.
It was a bittersweet moment. On one hand it was lovely that this time around I was able to let my daughter wean herself, but on the other I was really sad that something so precious for both of us had come to its natural end.
Anyway, enough emotional rambling. Just wanted to say, huge big thank yous to everyone who gave me advice, and just for being there with encouragement for all of us who find something so 'natural' so bloody difficult at times.
