weight loss and breastfeeding

I always thought I was one of those people who never lost weight when breastfeeding. But now I have concluded that its just because I have a bigger appetite, and put weight on as I was eating all the time.

I am still partially feeding (3 feeds a day) and have lost 16lbs (same as DS2 weighs!) in 6 weeks. I have never lost weight this quickly before, despite also being on 1300 calories a day (now and in previous diets) - could it be that those who don't loose while breastfeeding are those who have bigger appetite and hence eat more?

I'm eating more breastfeeding than I did pregnant - makes sense as you're really eating for two now. You only lose weight if you take in less than you use.

I've lost about 3 stone without really trying in just under 6 months. I started back to work 3 weeks ago and the new work trousers I bought then are already so loose I don't need to undo the buttons to take them off. I've another 4 stone to lose to reach ideal weight but it's given me a great start.

Maybe it's just that things change as baby gets older. I've never managed to lose weight before baby reaches 6months and then it seems to be much easier despite the same diet. Also it affected my milk supply earlier but not later.

I was so excited by the prospect of the weight just dropping off once breastfeeding. Humpf is all I can say to that now.

I lost all of my pregnancy weight quite quickly but have gradually regained it and more and I am still breastfeeding. I have read that some people lose the weight after they finish breastfeeding? Not sure why this is...although I do know that since I started breastfeeding my appetite has got bigger and I crave chocolate/sugar badly.

I found the weight mainly dropped off once DC were around 5-6 months. That said once DS1 was born I was only 1/2 stone heavier than pre-pregnancy

DD is 15 weeks old and I've lost 20 kgs - I'm two dress sizes smaller than I was before I got pregnant. And I have been craving sugar and sweet things. Not so badly now that I'm getting a bit more sleep though.

I'll have to be careful once weaning starts at 6 months or it'll creep back on.

I freaking love breastfeeding - DD plumps up while I slim down!! Grin
