My DD is just over 3 weeks old, i am BF her and collecting the ditional milk & sometimes expressing (not a lot though)

Soreness - on & off, its more sore at night & early hours.... and after every feed it feels like my boobs are sunburnt. i did have slight mastitis but it wore off a bit. had the fever etc too. but now i just get sore.

been to babycafe & DDs latch is good, my left nipple is slightly flat but DD is managing to bring it out now & have a good feed.

leaking

Leaking has calmed down but where my boobs get so filled, everytime i feed i leak, & the boob im feeding from has a fastyflow so soaks baby!? when should the leaking & engorgement so down/ease????

Hi Dozey, I found massaging boobs in warm shower after feeding helped with achyness. Especially if you can feel any specific sore patches or lumpiness which can indicate a beginning of a blockage.

I have always leaked from the boob I am not feeding from, just tend to stick a muslin in my bra! Your let down will get less gushy, and baby will get more able to deal with it, but in meantime have you tried expressing a bit off before you feed?

Good luck

Hi Dozey, my DS is 9 weeks now. I used to get leaking from the breast I wasn't feeding from. It stopped happening after a few weeks. However recently the baby went through one of those 'spurts' where he fed like crazy for a couple of days and now I have a lot more milk, and the leaking is happening again. I guess it's just oversupply whilst your body adjusts. Make sure you wear fresh pyjama tops / bras every day, you don't want to get an infection.

re: fast gushy flow. This makes my DS latch off often to swallow, cry a bit, sometimes choke. I have found feeding in the front-to-front, reclining position has helped (google 'biological nurturing')

I go through all of my feeding tops & bras daily! washing machine is on overload!! :(

Need to go and buy more i think. I just can't wait to get to the stage where its painfree and not as messy! I havent fed in public yet, I go into my room, or someones room when at their house!

You could try some nipple shells (found on Amazon here)You put one on the boob you're not feeding from and it collects the leakage. Or you can just wear them in your bra at other times. Just remember to empty them before you bend over to do something!

HI Dozeyland,
I remember your posts before you gave birth, so well done for getting this far! All sounds pretty good overall.

here is a good rundown of different types of breast pain and how to work out what it means.

Maybe you should hold off the expressing for a bit just to let your supply settle down.

Stick with it, things will calm down soon enough. Smile

I do use nipple shells, and yes i do forget to empty then it goes everywhere!!

I'm more concerned about the pain at the moment... DD is still feeding, she goes roughly 3-4 hours with some split feeds in the daytime. she's kind o made a routine for herself otherwise she sleeps, or has alert time...

bu the pain at the mo, engorgement i think but they are SOOOOOOOO sore
