Tommy tippee breast pump problem

Using a tommy tippee manual breast pump which is excellent , but have a problem with it when sterilising it.

The plastic handle seems to get too hot whilst in the microwave and melts,it's only been a few patches but this morning it's melted quite a bit.

Anyone had slimilar problems.

I never had any problems with mine.

Can I ask why you're microwaving it? I used to sterilise mine in a microwave steriliser but I never put it in on it's own

Do you have a dishwasher? I either cold water sterlised or put my (Avent) pump into the dishwasher.

BTW: I didin't sterilise after every pumping: EBM is itself antibacterial :)

Thanks for the replies

I put the pump in it's box and then sterilise that way.

I also have a btl steriliser for the microwave I may try it in that.

OK, daft question but you are putting water in the pump box aren't you?

I used mine a lot and the worst I managed was welding the little flower valve into the hold by forgetting to open it during steaming.

Do you have a really powerful microwave maybe?

I've managed to melt 2 of mine, by forgetting to put any/enough water in and not ensuring the lid is on properly (though make sure its with the valve open at the top).

My top tip is that once you've melted it past all recognition, TK Maxx tend to have them for about £7, I'm on my third!

This happened to me twice! Emailed them and got a full refund after sending damaged pump to them (freepost).

I never used to put mine in the microwave steriliser as it cracked twice (I had to return it for another one), I ended up getting the electric steriliser which was much better.
