Too much poo?

Hi,

is there such a thing as a baby producing too much poo?!

Today my baby has pooed after every feed and a few times in between. She is 3 weeks old and breastfed.

Thanks.

Sounds about right from what I remember (DD now 7, DS 5!)

Just be aware that bf babies can change their pooing habits. DD was a 'poo at every feed' baby for a while then went 6 days without one!! Luckily HV had just told me that this was possible, would have looked very silly at A&E :)

If you are at all concerned speak to your HV

at 3 weeks i was going through 20 nappies + a day, and DS2 had dreadful nappy rash as sometimes he pooed and i didn't get it quick enough. ds2 did poo (often small) roughly every 30 mins, or less. by 8 weeks roughly twice a day.

HV was Biscuit said she'd never heard of it before (in all her 20 years of being a HV!!!), but wasn't worried as he was putting on weight and seemed otherwise ok (apart from nappy rash).

Sounds pretty normal to me. DS did this and he fed alot and chubbed up pretty quickly.

DD was the other extreme, her record was 12 days!

If you are worried at all please have a look at What's in a Nappy? or you could always talk through your concerns with a bfing counsellor.

DS is 17 weeks and he can still poo five times in four hours when he wants to. He always used to poo around three times day up until a couple of weeks ago, cost us a fortune in nappies.

We also learnt that after the first poo there is always another one waiting round the corner so waiting a few minutes meant saving the extra nappy.
