breastfeeding and periods

Goodmorning all,

I don't really know whether to post this on general health or breastfeeding, so I just thought that I would post on both of the topics.

My dd is now 9mths. I am still breastfeeding but not as much as before. During this whole time my periods have not returned and I was very happy because I suffer from severe dysmenorrhea and PMT, so an extended break from my period has been very welcomed. However, this last week and a half I feel like my period is about to start but there is no blood. I have started to feel dizzy, weak, feeling contractions during the day, feel like crying, extremely angry and all over the place. Does this make sense even though there has been no blood and the fact that I am still breastfeeding?

THanks

samoa - this needs a doctor's opinion, I think.

It's normal to get a day or so's warning of a period, but your symptoms have gone on for a week and a half, and they include pain.

There is nothing I can think of that would mean a link to breastfeeding. It doesn't sound like a return to fertility with ovulation symptoms, either.

Hope you get some good help and advice.

I'd second it'd be worth a quick check with your GP, and if you have one to hand a pregnancy test (they'll probably ask you if you've done one).

I do remember feeling a bit grumpy and my return to periods being a bit uncomfortable after breastfeeding (twice) I don't recall it going on for so many days without the bleed starting.

NHS direct are good for discussing this sort of thing if its awkward to get to the GP, or it takes a bit of time to get an appointment at yours.

Thanks for the replies. There is no way I could be pregnant, my dh and I have not had sex since dd was born (but that is another topic).
