I know biting has been discussed on here a zillion times, but I massively need some reassurance.

I am bf my 9 month old girl (yes, MIL, FIL, Mum, Dad and every other tit who keeps asking, I am STILL bf)Wink

She has four bottom and four top front teeth, most of which are halfway through. She has bitten before, but usually at the end of feeds and not very often.

Last couple of days she just bites straight away and those incisors are lethal! I've tried everything - a firm 'no', putting her down for a few mins, pulling her towards the breast - but nothing is working.

She abhors formula in either cup or bottle and I'm very concerned about my supply and her calorie intake!!

Am I just being a wuss? Is this just a phase.

HELP!!

Had this too- a real chomp as he latched on- ouch.

It did settle down though and we're STILL bfing at 1 year. Smile

So there is hope that this will pass.

Thanks crikey...I really hope you're right! She finds the whole affair utterly hilarious. Just tried to feed her AGAIN and she laughed at my boob as soon as she saw it Hmm

Is it teething? You could try using the teething gel of your choice a few minutes before a feed to see if that helps. Or waiting until she is sleepy and try feeding her then?

Kellymom ha some good info on nursing strikes here

Ds does this sometimes too. I don't have any good advice to give. But lots of OUCH Shock

GMajor7 · 08/11/2010 19:04

Cheers. Could be teething, but then why is she being so jolly about the whole affair?! Might try the gel!

Just when you think you've overcome all hurdles that breastfeeding can possibly throw at you!

FWIW, with ds I think he is teething, or soon to be teething (he constantly gnaws his finger, and loves cold stuff), but he too is perfectly happy to be biting me too - he's not at that wingey stage of teething yet. Bloody painful.
