Boob keeps going lumpy & painful to feed

My right boob keeps going lumpy, despite feeding off it, and it is painful to feed (more painful than usual). Is this a blocked duct?

Sounds like it.

Had my first one on Saturday.

Heat, ibuprofen, massage, lots of feeding (wince), get wee one latched on with chin at the ouchy bit. Rest.

Bloody horrid.

ABs if infected - ie high fever, etc.

it hurts so much! I'm so fed up with this whole thing :(

It is fucking grim, bumper.

Can't believe how much better mine is though after a day of hot water bottling and rubbing and ibuprofen max dose.

And hot baths, etc.

:( I can empathise unfortunately. Take ibuprofen and paracetamol, massage while feeding (and probably swearing!). If there's no improvement tomorrow, contact your GP (or midwife if you're still under mw care - they know much more about bf problems than GPs IME)
Have you read kellymom's section on blocked ducts and mastitis?

Thanks, it's finally gone. Did the same last week. How can I prevent it from keep on happening?

I'm so fed up with painful feeding :(

I'm wondering the same thing :( Maybe feed once a day in a different position eg rugby ball hold so the the breast gets drained differently? I'll let you know if I come up with anything else

Is your bra fitting OK? I had blocked ducts recently and worked out that my nursing bra was too tight. Once I stopped wearing that one it was fine.

I had had it fitted at John Lewis too! Next time I'll go to NCT for a fitting.

Bumperlicious · 09/11/2010 21:46

I've been wearing a bravado one which isn't tight fitting at all.

It's so excrutiatingly painful to feed
