White Spot on Nipple

I have developed a white spot on my right nipple which from a bit of digging around the internet I think is due to a blocked duct. (I was initially concerned it might be thrush but have no other symptoms and nor does DD). It isn't painful (after the first 5 or 6 sucks) nor is the breast lumpy.

I have tried placing a hot flannel over the area before feeding but to no affect. Any other advise? I read about using a sterile needle but can't bring myself to put a needle into my nipple! I'm really worried that a blocked duct could swiftly progress to mastitis so any advise as to how to fix it greatfully received.

Do NOT put a needle anywhere near it! Please just go to see the docs this week

Do you have any pain on that breast? Or does it feel hot? How are you feeling in yourself (ie do you feel achey/feverish)

bleb?

Cies · 06/11/2010 21:46

Erm, well, I have had about 3 of these. And I have to say that I put a needle to it, which is what shifted it in the end. But don't do that just because I did Blush

Have you read Kellymom and all the stuff they suggest there?

Heathcliffscathy · 06/11/2010 21:50

i had a bleb recently if you search my threads and it did lead to mastitis...i helped it with deep tissue massage hot/cold flannels and using shower head on hot against breast.

your baby will suck it out eventually if it stays under control so feed a lot and make sure that breast is drained.

I had this and it was painful too. In the end I kind of pinched it between my fingernails (very gently) and pulled - the white bit just came straight out. Then I fed dd on that side just to make sure it was totally unblocked. Instant fix.

Yeah I've read through the stuff on kellymom, and it does look just like the link picture there.

Breast isn't tender / painful / hot and I'm totally well in myself.

Think I will continue with the hot flannel stuff and try a hot bath in the morning. If I can't shift it by Monday will pop to the breast feeding clinic at the hospital and see what they suggest.

Bloody typical, it was all going so well :-(
