my baby girl is 7 days old and has been having very bad trapped wind bordering on colic. we started using infacol which has been a real life saver and is doing the trick.

but she seems to be constipated. i have heard that this can be a side effect of infacol and we havent had a dirty nappy for 2 days now and every now and then she strains like she is trying to poo, but nothing has come of it, just wind. it doesnt seem to be overly bothering her, although she does have a little whinge when she is trying iygwim (once we got the trapped wind sorted she is a very laid back baby!)

so when do i start to worry about her not having a dirty nappy (there are lots and lots of wet ones) the midwife is next coming on monday, is it ok to wait that long to talk to someone or do i need to do something sooner?

i know i can be slightly pfb with her and dont want to be ringing midwife's or health visitors if its nothing to worry about and will work its self out.

is she BF or FF ? It's quite normal for EBF babies not to have a poo for several days. As long as she's having wet nappies and is alert then she should be fine :)

Can't advise on FFing though I'm afraid

I'm no expert, just a colic survivor. MNP is the oracle I've been told and I'm sure she'll reply later

It could be just newborn straining, if the poops are soft when they do arrive its usually ok. It just takes a while for newborns to discover how a bowel movement feels. Once they do they tend to stop straining so much.

However if there is excessive wind in the tummy maybe that is blocking things up a little. Massage can help move things along. here

But do call your midwife/HV, its what they are there for.
