reflux HELP!!

DS is 17 weeks old, and has reflux, was on Gaviscon from around 4 weeks old, which helped with the sick but not much else. He has always been a poor sleeper, constantly writhing at night and upset during the day. Got to a point a few weeks ago where he screamed at every feed and I had to pace up and down and console him while feeding, at most, I got him to drink 3/4oz a time.
GP prescribed 0.5ml of ranitidine 3 times a day around 3 weeks ago. Ranitidine seems to be helping a bit and he is more settled - managing to sleep ½ hr nap in the morning and 2 ½ hrs during the afternoon - massive improvement on his 15 minute cat naps all day. I also bought him a reflux wedge which helped initially but he seems to slide off it during the night and then wake up confused. Confused
I decided last week to put him to bed on his wedge at 7, to get him to sleep and help keep him upright after his last feed, then took it away when I went to bed at 11, so he didn?t slide off it, he then slept through on his own till 7 the next morning for 3 nights in a row :)
This week, he has suddenly stopped sleeping at night and he is back to waking all through the night. Last night, he woke at midnight, then after settling him back down, he woke again every ½ hr. He is definitely not hungry, not at all interested in milk (I have offered), he stopped wanting night milk a few weeks ago when he went onto the ranitidine as he began to drink more in the day, he now has 8oz bottle, every 4 hrs (ff). I brought him into my bed at 3.30am but he still wouldn?t settle and thrashed around all night.
Can any other reflux mums give me some advice? Do you think the ranitidine may not be enough? When GP prescribed it, he suggested we try it, and then come back for domperidone if I don?t see an improvement. Any ideas as to how long I should give it ? it has been nearly 3 weeks. Or am I expecting too much? I realise he is still very young and I am not specifically asking for advice to get him to sleep all night, I just want him to have some proper rest as I can see how distressed he is at being awake when he is clearly so tired. I would happily deal with a couple of night wakings, just can?t do every ½ hr, I fear I am turning into a zombie. :)
Being sick doesn?t bother him at all, if anything he laughs when he is sick, so I am not bothered about that part, I will happily change him 50 times a day if he is happy, but he gets so upset at (I think?) the acid in his throat, and I don?t know how to help him. Sad
Also, has anyone noticed solids making any improvement with a reflux baby and at what age did you try this?

My reflux babies were full on nightmares until about 8 months!! However dd1 was undiagnosed and so really awful.

I would go up the meds, you can keep going! And buy a swing, this gives you a break of at least an hour.

You're not expecting too much, I would give meds about two weeks.
