How much alcohol??

I have had half a glass of celebratory champagne since DS' birth, but nothing else...haven't fancied it, but am just now getting to the point where I fancy a glass of wine. I'm confused about the breastfeeding rules here - the pregnancy ones are straightforward, but everyone just seems to say 'everything in moderation' with bf. My concern is DS wants to cluster feed in the evenings and then has a couple of huge feeds in the night, so if I have a glass of wine with my tea that'd be just before he wants to feed the most. Should I abstain completely or would a small glass occasionally be OK, even though he will want to feed soon afterwards? I don't want to go down the path of lunchtime drinking! Grin

Read the sensible stuff here:

www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk - there is a good factsheet on alcohol and bf.

Basically, the only effects seen in a baby are when you are way over the drink drive limit but chronic regular drinking is not advised.

It's personal choice, but total abstention is hardly justified by the evidence.

I've always gone by 'If you're ok to drive then you're ok to BF' Personally, I have rarely had more than one small glass of wine/beer an evening. On the rare occasions I have had 2 then I make sure that there has been a few hours between the 2 drinks and that I have eaten.

Thanks - I certainly am not hankering after a glass a day or anything. But it would be nice to have one on a Saturday night or if we go out (not that I can contemplate leaving the house right now, but hopefully I will surface eventually!)
