Hard lump-Blocked duct?

DD is 5 weeks and ebf. A week ago I had mastitis, felt awful for one day and had high temp but cleared up without antibiotics by the next day.
Since tuesday I have a hard lump on the same breast, at the top, right near the chest wall. There is some redness over the area, but it only hurts if I touch it and I don't feel unwell like last week.
Called an NCT breastfeeding advisor yesterday who advised massage, warm water, nursing, so I continued doing that.
Also tried the chin to affected area thing but she wont latch properly that way and gets upset.
It didn't seem to improve at all so today I went to GP.He gave me prescription for antibiotics in case it gets worse over weekend( don't need to use yet). He thinks it is a left over from the mastitis I had last week. I asked about massage and he said not to in case it was getting infected and bacteria spread to my blood stream by massage.
I'm a little confused now. How do I carry on?If you had a similar experience what helped you to sort it out? At what point do I have to start worrying about an abscess?
Baby is nursing well on the affected side and I also have a pump( not used yet).

I agree with the NCT advisors advice. If the duct is blocked, massage and warm compresses to help clear it is the way to go.

She will be much more expert than the GP with regards to thisSmile

Thank you both for the bump and the advice! I think it might be a bit smaller this morning. Most books seem to be saying they go away in about 24 hours or so with treatment, had mine 3 days now, slightly worrying. Think I will call the NCT again.

Please see your GP again by Monday if lump still there. I had a big hard lump in my breast when bf, red but not too painful unless I touched it and no fever - the not-medically-qualified types over the phone kept saying it's a blocked duct and massage with warm water/compresses etc. Went to see GP finally who referred me to breast consultant as turned out it was massive abscess and took months to fully drain/heal plus 6 weeks on antibiotics. The NCT advisor hasn't actually seen you so may be wrong. So don't leave too late and make sure you get seen by a qualified doctor.

pinkpeony thank you for the advice and I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Hope you are all better now.
The thought of an abscess has been in the back of my mind. I have an appointment for my 6 week check on monday anyway so will bring it up then.
