Anyone else not use nursing bras?

Just started thinking about this after reading the "BFing essentials" thread. How many of you regard a nursing bra as essential?

When I was PG I just assumed that I would need some nursing bras for BFing and bought a few which I used for the first few weeks.

My mum then commented on the fact that she had never used a special bra to breastfeed so I tried just using an ordinary bra and slipping the strap down on one side.

I found that this worked just as well for me (and was just as easy to accomplish with one hand under a scarf when travelling by train...) as hooking and unhooking the cup on a nursing bra.

Since then, I've been mainly back in ordinary bras which are generally cheaper, nicer and more likely to have underwiring (good when you're DD+ cup size).

I am mixed feeding and back at work so I bought a normal underwired bra to wear for work. I only feed DS2 at 7am (before I am dressed), 6pm and 10pm (already in pjs).

I find the 6pm feed a complete pain, and end up having to take the bra off completely. Slipping the side down doesn't work for me, if I need to keep it on I pull the whole thing up but its very uncomfortable.

So yes, I would say that feeding bras are essential.

I occasionally wear a padded t-shirt bra (with underwire) and slip strap down/hoick boob up'n'over but I prefer to wear nursing bras (just need the 'definition' of a proper bra sometime). Am feeding a 1 y/o and nearly 3 y/o though so not feeding every 5 mins.

I've been in nothing but nursing bras for 14 months. I have one bra that is underwired (38G) and I actually find it uncomfortable now that I'm used to my soft non-wired bras. I suppose I'll get back to regular bras someday....unless I get pregnant again!

I didn't have a nursing bra for the first 3-4 weeks, but in my defense, I didn't really get of the house that much. I managed for that month in my maternity bras but it was so much hassle that I finally got some nursing bras.

It's so much easier than hoicking a strap and cup and boob up and down!

But each to their own I guess Smile

Tried to slip the side down at 6pm but because it fits well the side doesn't come down, and if i loosened the straps would defeat the point of having bought a good fitting bra!
