I'm not sure if I have thrush, am on 2nd week of antibiotics for mastitis in left boob. Before mastitis I had awful cracked nipples which are better and The mastitis seems to be getting better but nipple pain in left boob is back and excrutiating when feeding and for an hour or so after. My nipples quite often go white and the left is painful to touch all the time. I also have burning pain in breast- 2 sorts- one in both when baby cries and milk comes in and the other in tissue under nipple of left boob.
so exhausted now wondering how on earth I can get round to soaking and rewashing everything that's been in contact with nipples and as I was reading I was tucking into giant bag of haribo oh i just can't go on like this much longer feeling so low

can it be thrush just in one side?

baby has tongue tie too- still waiting for appoitment for snip

Sorry I don't know but wanted to give you some sympathy
Have you rung one of the breastfeeding helplines or spoken to a bf counsellor?
Really hope things improve soon x

Oh poor you Sad

My ds had tongue tie also and the pain you describe sounds a lot like what I experienced.

It sounds like the white nipple could be vasospasm - where the latch is so bad blood flow to the nipple is constricted causing it to go white - it is very painful - especially as the weather gets cooler. When it was happening to me I thought it was thrush too but I think it was the vasospasm. Am no good at links but google it. I think putting something warm in the bra might give you some relief.

I remember the pain at let down so well - I heard it called the 10 second toe curler. It stopped being so painful for me after a couple of months. It used to reduce me to tears. The pain under the nipple of your left boob - could that be a blocked duct? Is the area hard at all? AWfully painful. If so try hot flannels on the area, feeding from that side (painful!), combing (with a wide toothed comb) towards the nipple.

There is loads of advice on kellymum. Also try the Lalechleague or a bf councillor (sp)

You are doing a fabulous job!!!! I tried to get tonguetie snipped but all tha apts made for us were cancelled. In the end it fixed itself and by about 4 months it was no longer painful.

It is flippin hard work and I hope you get the support you need.
