Problem changing over to cows milk - could it cause sickness?

My DS has just turned one. He is BF all day and has a bottle of formula at bedtime / if he is being babysat.
He's never been interested in drinking water or juice (though I haven't pushed the juice).

A couple of nights ago I gave him cows milk instead of formula at bedtime. He drank it all, but then woke up upset an hour later really windy. We tried everything to settle him, eventually giving him the bottle of formula I'd made up in case he refused the cows milk. He then went to sleep.

Last night he had cows milk again. He slept for an hour then woke again really upset, and really windy again. This time nothing would settle him for a couple of hours. He completely refused the boob, and we finally got him to sleep with a normal bottle after a couple of hours. He then woke up screaming several times in the night, and the last time he'd been sick everywhere. We got him to sleep eventually in our bed.

This morning he has refused all food (most unlike him) but has had a fair amount of boob.

He had cows milk on cereals etc for months, has cheese etc and I eat loads of dairy. But could it just be a coincidence that this has happened over the last couple of days? He starts nursery soon three days a week and I was going to get them to give him cows milk to drink there (he'll still be BF morning and evening and all the other four days) as I'm sure he won't drink water.

What should I do next?????

We just switched DD to cows milk last month and we have had a nightmare with her being really badly constipated ever since!

I took her to the GP who gave us some lactulose and told us to just carry on givng her cows milk. He said the problems are just due to her system getting use to the change.

I'm unsure though tbh, I keep wondering wether to put her back on formula or just persevere with the cows milk.

Sorry, I'm not being much help, but will be watching this thread with interest.

Memoo did your DD have much milk before that? I think I'm going to put DS back onto formula for a while then try again when there is less going on. I don't want the poor little thing to have a bad tummy and start at nursery at the same time (nor do I want lots of broken sleep whilst trying to re-engage my brain back into the working world!).
It just seems really odd as there is already a fair bit of dairy in his diet, maybe this is overload? At leat I know he likes the taste and is willing to drink a bottle of it.

Poor little man!

She didn't have much milk before that but was having other dairy like cheese and yoghurts. I think it may be overload too, I wonder if its worth giving some formula and some cows milk to introduce the cows milk slowly over a few months?
