Worried about painful nipples

I had a horrendous experience trying to BF DD - incredibly painful.

REALLY want to give it a try w/this one due in December, but I've already got incredibly sensitive, painful nipples.

Is there any hope? How can I tough them up?

I'm already lactating, I assume is a good sign, and had a good milk supply last time round, but it was just too painful.

HELP!

Try putting some cream - Kamillosan is what I used and it was great - on them from now. I think you want to soften and moisten them instead of toughing them up, that's certainly what I found anyway. If mine get sore now I just pop the cream on a few times for a couple of days and it sorts it out.

you may be fine with the 2nd - I had an absolute nightmare with ds1 - couldn't believe how excrutiatingly painful it was and got so demoralised and then thoroughly p*ssed off at NCT counsellors/HVs saying keep at it, will get better etc as never did. However, with ds2, no problem at all - he quite simply feeds much more gently and much more efficiently. Hope it works out for you this time, but if it doesn't please don't let yourself or anyone else beat you up over it!

Get some Lansinoh cream to use if/when your nipples get sore. Also, if it's too sore and you're about to quit... get yourself and electric pump and try expressing as many feeds as possible. I found it very sore to start and had my attachment checked and it was fine. It just took a while for my nipples to toughen up - and I couldn't have doen it without Lansinoh and expressing one feed *for the evening) a day.

My friend had incredible problems with dd but said ds was a breeze, so you never know you might be lucky.

Lansinoh is great!!! I could only feed off one breast untill DS was about 4-5 months. Because of this my left nipple was incredibly sore but lansinoh saved me You can use it before you have a shower/bath too! I did try kamillosan but that didnt seem to work. Also I was lactating about 4 months before DS was born, had to wear breast pads Ive had a good supply, too much infact!
