Just a quick one..... what is the point of the growing up milks (from a year old)....are they any good......should ds have this at a year old or is regular cows milk enough????? The advertising is very persuasive!!!!! ds recently stopped bf and has follow on milk (stage 3) but i didnt even realise there is a stage 4 milk!!!!! Is it just a marketing ploy??????

No, there is no point to these milks. Resist the advertising, particularly IS YOUR CHILD GETTING ENOUGH IRON etc. Feed a varied diet, plently of water, cows milk as a drink if you'd like (full fat) and enjoy spending the eight or so pounds you save by not buying this milk on something really nice for you and your child. It is just a marketing ploy (in my humble opinion) Smile

It's all a marketing ploy really. All the 'stages'. Formula is formula is formula.

They may have bunged some iron and stuff into the milk but there are two main problems with this. One, it's very difficult to absorb iron from milk and actually iron in that quantity added to milk can make a baby constipated. Two, if a child has a healthy, balanced diet they don't need the extra anyway and will absorb vitamins and nutrients much better from food than fortified milk.

Agree with loopymumsy - stage 2 milk was invented solely because they're not allowed to advertise infant formula.

DP and I always fall about laughing at the "you'd have to drink this much cow's milk" advert because there is a note on screen that says "cow's milk is not a good source of iron" - well, duh!!

I like that advert with the massive milk cup too. Thought it was a ploy.....just concerned as my son is so big for his age.....31 lbs at 46 weeks....and is as tall as he is heavy!!!! Was worried he might need extra iron because of his size! he has a very good balanced diet so maybe i shouldnt bother!
