DS1 has self weaned!!

Those who know me of old on here will know that it has been a long, long time coming, but it's happened. Grin

He decided a few weeks ago to have his last ever milk on the evening of his birthday, tandemming with his brother because the milk goes faster LOL.

Yesterday was his birthday, and we did his last feed as per his request and that was it. No fuss or anything. I had made a book on photobox with pictures of him since he was a baby showing him growing up and saying bye to milk at the end of the book. He seemed most unimpressed by it!! Shock

He did ask me earlier today to nurse, but I think he was just testing me and wasn't bothered in the slightest when I said "no, you don't have milk any more, remember"

Great story, mawbroon :)

Lovely that you and he will have such happy, loving memories.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/10/2010 17:23

Oh mawbroon that is lovely :)

megonthemoon · 22/10/2010 17:25

Lovely story, particularly the bit about him not being interested in the photo book you made - so typical of a boy to have made a decision and then moved on without emotion or wistfulness :o

Littlefish · 22/10/2010 17:27

Congratulations Mawbroon. Smile

Brollyflower · 22/10/2010 19:24

Well done Smile. Certainly feels like it's been a time coming, oh and congratulations on the little one (how old?).

whomovedmychocolate · 22/10/2010 19:25

Congratulations Mawbroon. If you are anything like I was when DD weaned you will be equally delighted and wistful. :)

FlipFantasia · 22/10/2010 19:31

Excellent news Mawbroon Smile. Such a lovely way that it's ended for him (and you).

vastingavay · 22/10/2010 20:01

Aw, that's so lovely. Smile

mawbroon · 22/10/2010 20:28

Thanks everyone. Smile

Well, bedtime tonight went without a hitch. He did ask for milk again, but like this morning, I think he was testing.

whomovedmychocolate - I thought I would feel really sad about it, I actually don't feel anything very much tbh. I think it's because I've had 40 sleeps (we counted them down) to think about it!! I did get a bit teary making the photobook, but am fine about it now.

Brollyflower - ds2 is 7.5months now. He was born during the great drama that was a broken ankle, including surgery. But he's none the worse for it and couldn't be more chilled. Smile Loving seeing the two of them together.

LeninGhoul - I have no idea if he will remember or not. There's a good chance that he will, but then it's nothing special to him really and a natural progression, so maybe not. Dunno.

MaMoTTat - yes, it will be great! I am looking forward to it.

Thanks for all your nice comments.

We were at LLL this morning, and today happened to be the meeting for older babies and toddlers. Ds1 is on holiday from school, so he came too and passed round the little cakes we had made to celebrate. Everyone told him it was great etc which was lovely. Smile

Oh how wonderful mawbroon!
I so rarely browse threads on MN these days, so how perfect that you've posted today when I'm having a v quick nose.

Well done ds1!

mawbroon · 22/10/2010 22:56

Thanks cantsleepwontsleep. How are you doing?

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 23/10/2010 22:42

I'm good thanks mawbroon. Finding life quite challenging with 3 under 5 and dh being abroad 4 days a week, esp as I have another unputdownable baby, but we manage!

spiderlight · 23/10/2010 23:11

Aww, how lovely!

mawbroon · 24/10/2010 20:39

Oh poor ds1. He was asking for milk tonight. He is a bit under the weather and it would have been so easy to backtrack, but instead, he was happy to snuggle and read his "milk book" and laugh at the cute pictures. Smile

CSWS, yes, that sounds hard going! Was it you that was to be tri-andem feeding or am I confusing you with someone else? If so, how's it going??

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 24/10/2010 20:44

There was a chance that I might have been mawbroon, but dd and I agreed that she would stop on her 4th birthday, when I was around 4 months pregnant.

I think that babieseverywhere is tri-andeming though.

mawbroon · 24/10/2010 21:57

Well done to your dd. Was she happy enough to stop?

Respect to babieseverywhere. I found tandemming challenging enough, never mind three! Shock

Here we are a week on now and still weaned!!

He seems to have taken an interest in the Milk Book now, and it replaces nursing just before he goes to sleep.

He was asking for milk yesterday morning and got a bit upset when I said no. I offered to snuggle with him, but he said "no, I can smell your milk and it just makes me want some" Shock I thought it was cobblers about babies smelling the milk tbh, but there you go - scientific proof! Wink

Apparently it just smells of me and it's lovely. Awwwww.

Must be hard for him when ds2 is nursing almost full time, but he's doing really well. Smile

So happy to read your story mawbroon, haven't seen you around for a while and had wondered about it all as am thinking about the possibilities of tandem feeding. Congratulations to you and your DS1. Smile
