Question re teats on bottles

Hi all,

We've currently got our DD (5 weeks) on medium flow no2 teats as she was struggling feeding out of the number 1 teats at first. However they now don't seem to be suiting her anymore, she seems to be choking as if the milk is coming out too quick.

The midwife said to try her on the number 1 teats again at 6 weeks so since she's been struggling with the no2's over the last couple of days we decided to try her on the no1 again tonight however she doesn't seem keen, seems to be working quite hard to get the milk out and has now just been sick everywhere. She has been really fussy over the last couple of days though (possibly growth spurt) so the sickness and fussiness might be because of that.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been given similar advice as all i seem to be able to find online is people saying they've gone up in numbers not down.

Hope this makes sense.

DS was always 'behind' on the numbers, was on no1 til about 3 months I think. I mixed fed and wasn't bothered if he had to work harder to get milk out of the bottle. faster flow teats seems just too quick. Have you tried a different shape teat?

The no1 are different to the ones we've been using, they are the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature ones, the no2 ones we've been using were just cheap bottles that we got from Tesco as was told we wouldn't need them for long as she could go back on the Tommee ones.

It's not so much the working harder for it that has me concearned but the fact she was sick straight after trying the new ones. But like i said she has been a bit fussy recently anyway.

Maybe i should leave it for a few days and try again.

i use tommy tippee closer ones, i used number 1 teets that came with the bottle until about 2 1/2mths and she seemed to be taking for ever to finish the bottle and getting frustrated she wasnt getting enough out quickly..so we bought one pack of number two teets (you dont need to get new bottles its pack of no 2 tommee tippee teets for £3.99 out of asda or morrisions u get two in there) and started putting her on them they say three mth plus but i think its varies to each baby, just a guideline/ she choked at first as they are used to sucking so strongly with number 1, so it takes time for them to get used to new easier flow, i just gave her a break by taking the bottle out of her mouth and but leaving it touching her lip, so she didnt cry thinking it had been taken away, lol, but just gave her few breathes so she didnt choke or sick it up. i mixed number 1 and 2 teets for a week, now i just use number 2 teets, shes 3mths old now. think it just takes them time to get used to it, as i breast fed until 8 weeks so it took a wile for her to get used to bottle in first place, hope that helps :)
