DS has started clamping down on my nipple at the end of his feeds, he's done it twice so far. He's only 3 months so I can't explain to him not to do it. How do I stop him before his teeth come in?

Advice from Kellymom here.

I take my DS off and put him down on the floor briefly when he does it - he seemed to get the idea reasonably quickly.

I was just going to post a thread like this, my bbay is 6mo and has 2 little razor blades. It HURTS, my left nipple bled last time.I am dreading feeding him again. We also have thrush so his mouth will hurt as well as my nipples :(

When my DS started this a bfing counsellor suggested that I might like to try feeding lying down as it works for some Mums. It worked for me too. Gave 2 feeds lying down and no more biting. Hope you find something that works for you.

can you go back to feeding sitting up after that? I don't really get on with lying down

Ineedsomesleep · 17/10/2010 10:20

Yes, I only fed twice lying down and then went back to sitting up.

It was a bfing counsellor who suggested that though. I really would recommend giving one of the helplines a call. I was at the point of giving up bfing because of the biting when I called the NCT helpline and once I'd spoken to then and done what they suggested the biting stopped almost straightaway.

Good luck.

We are much better now, the gel for his mouth and cream for my nipples is working. As its the weekend I have also been able to feed him upstairs where it is less distracting for him (my husband looking after older DD) and that has helped too.
