Painful latch at 9.5 months??/

I'm completely confused about why, in the past 4 days or so, ds's latch has started to be really painful to the extent that I can see a blister forming on my nipple.

He has teeth but they aren't new, I can't see any difference in his position, though obviously there must be something! He massively favours my left breast and this is the one that is affected.

He has bitten me in the past but that was very different.

Any ideas?

Hi La
Could it be hormonal, ie hurting due to ovulation or periods? This can sometimes make nipples feel sensitve and / or cause dip in supply that can frustrate older baby. Or could it be poor latch? Explain to DS that he needs to open mouth, get him to mimmick you like you would a newborn, and double check positioning yourself. Being distracted, pulling off and trying to get your attention if you're doing something else while nursing (ie on the phone or reading a book) can sometimes mean baby does something to get attention.

Happened to me when I ovulated/during my period. Could it be that?

I would buy the ov. thing if it wasn't for the physical change I can see to my nipple. It's white and deformed when he comes off and I'm developing a purplish bruised looking area at 6 o clock (iyswim) which is where the tiny blister is forming.

Which all makes me think that it must be a latch issue but why now? Will try the imitation thing. I think it's worse when he's tired too.

Thirding ovulation/periods, dd used to get so annoyed and use my nipple to vent frustration. Or is he getting more teeth? Both mine thought grating bottom teeth against the nipple was a great idea when they came through Hmm

I got horrid blocked ducts with white blisters every time I ovulated. I don't know why. I assume the milk flow/taste changed and she adjusted her latch to compensate.
