Why doesn't my prem baby drink much milk? He is 15 weeks old and he was 4 weeks early. He weighed in at 4lbs 3oz. He now weighs 10lbs 7oz. He only has between 4-5oz, Is this ok?
He is gaining weight, but only small amounts, HV seems ok with this.
Just that after a full term baby this is all new to me.
He still looks like a very new baby.
Does anyone have any advice....

I'm not f-feeding so no authority on the subject but didn't want to leave you unanswered, the cow and gate formula box suggests the following feed amounts:

Baby weight 8.8lbs --> 4Oz
Baby weight 11lbs --> 6Oz

So if your DS is between those weights, around 5Oz seems ok, not lots but ok. Hope someone will e on with something more useful soon.

How often does your baby feed?

I bf so I never really know but at about 10 pounds I think that 25oz or more in a 24 hour period is about right.(so maybe 5 oz is ok)

My DD was five weeks early(5lb 9) and put on weight slowly. She is now 7 months and only 15lbs....the same weight as some three month olds. I think prem babies are always going to be little for the first years of their lives. HOwever feeding and weight concerns become a big priority. I had to get her weighed every week at the beginning.

JUst as a reassurance it looks like your baby has gained weight really well in the first 15 weeks. A lot bigger than my LO was at 15 weeks(my DD looked like a new baby for ages....people were shocked at her age)...hope that helps...good luck
