Reflux - any survivors out there?

My 6 wk old has reflux - currently on Gavascone and now Rantidine. Was just wondering if others who have gone through this could give me any advice as to how long I need to brace myself for this to be a problem. My GP said that it peaks at 4 months and gets better with weaning. anyone got any happy stories? Currently at the end of my tether. Have medicines worked for anyone????

ranitidine really helped my ds, gaviscon was useless. we also had domperidone but weaned ds off that at 6ish months. weaning does really help and the screaming is becoming a memory (ds is 7months actual age )he was however 3 months early). there are lots of other things you can try, propping cot up, sling, swing which also helps when it all gets too much

thread here

Have to say the baby swing was my best ever buy.

Meds were not much use here as breastfed baby refused anything that wasn't BM.
I found a sling invaluable (I used a ring sling and a Wilkinet - both upright holds). Definitely much improved after weaning.
Oh, and copious muslins squares on hand at all times.

I'll post more about this later when I've cleaned the sick up, but you have my sympathy.

Hildathebuilder - how long did it take for the Rantidine to take effect? He has had 3 doses now and no improvement

Weaning had little effect - ds was weaned at 16 weeks (9 weeks corrected - prem) because of severe reflux. Age helped.

ranitidine had an effect in about 3-4 days for us, but he was very very tiny at the time
