Hi, dc3 is a week old today. Bfed both my other 2- one for 6 months the other a year. I am really really struggling after a week. My nipples are so sore. Cracked, bleeding and burning. My mw's have checked his latch and are saying he's on fine but I don't remember it hurting this much! 5 mins in it's fine, and I know he's getting enough cause he's putting on weight it's just the initial latch that is horrendous. I'm in tears and could just throw up. Is this normal? Do I just have to grin and bear it? I just seem to have blocked it out from my other dc's. Are nipple shields worth a shot? Are the medala ones good? Any advice would be greatly appreciated xx

Hello Rhigwyn, had the same problem with DS1 and used a cream called Kamillosan plus nipple shields which worked eventually - I think it took two to three weeks before I could feed without them again but did not put me off as I bfed him for just over a year, same as DS2.

Medela are my fave. I've tried avent, boots, Mothercare. Medela are the best for me as they don't collapse like the boots or Mothercare ones. My HV said to stick to same kind so you might have to buy a couple of packs!
