What formula is available in Spain?

Hi there - just wondering if anyone has experience of buying formula abroad - specifically the canaries?

I'm taking my 10 month old baby to fuerteventura on wednesday and was wondering whether to take enough cartans for the trip or if I could get them there.

He has aptimil.

If anyone knows - i'd be really grateful - don't want to take a load if it is not necessary!

Yes, they have aptamil - it has a different name but the same packaging so you should be able to find it easily :)

I bought Aptamil in Tenerife 2 weeks ago. You are best going to a farmacia (pharmacy)
Aptamil stage 1 is called Milupa inicio. Aptamil follow on is Milupa continuacion. Green tub with red lid. Make sure you keep a UK scoop as the Spanish ones are metric.
Don't be fooled by the blue packs with the polar bear on. They are cow and gate milk. I still have the pack so if you want a photo message me!

Just checked the pack for you. It says Milupa, then in smaller letters Aptamil leche del primer dia (milk from birth)
Look out for Mi primer danone (my first yoghurt). It's yoghurt made from baby follow on milk, my DD loved them!

warning - nappies cost a FORTUNE in Spain!!!!

lal123 (or anyone else) may I just hijack this thread and ask you to elaborate on the Spanish nappies? off to somewhere near malaga in half term, DS is 14m and in size 5 active fit type nappies usually, or super dry type.

should I just try and stuff as many in the suitcase as possible? what brands are good? TIA :)

The main brand is called Dodot and they are fine. Pampers are available in some places ( you may be lucky if you are in expat country near Malaga). Packages are in sizes and kilos not lbs. Tour operators such as Thomson do baby packs you can pre order.

Dodot is Pampers. Mercadona's own are fine too (supermarket)I have moved to Toujours from Lidl now and think they are great value for money. If you like nappy scaks bring some, can't get them here.

Hey sizes are the same but written in metric, i would second mercadona ones as being good and a lot cheaper than dodots but still pretty dear, i would shove a load in if you have the space.

Only problem with packing as many as can in your suitcase is that if you run out before the last day you'll end up having to buy a whole packet and cart the rest home with you...

good point! I'll try to work out how many we'll need.

For DD at 9 months I went through in two weeks

• 108 normal nappies
• 2 packs of swim nappies

I used more due to the fact that there was a nappy change out of a swim nappy every time she went in the pool as well as normal changes.
I would seriously not worry about buying them out there - about 10 euro for a medium pack is about the same price as active fit. We just have better offers on here!

Just take it from the UK is my advice.

We also use Aptamil Comfort but we live in the Middle East. There are regular shortages of formula here (which I has no way of knowing about when I started using it ), and on one of these occasions we - at great cost - ordered from the UK.

DS ended up miserable and constipated. Turns out that Arabian Aptamil is a slightly different formulation from U.K. Aptamil and our son did not get on with it at all. I found this out from calling the Aptamil hotline and emailing them.

Maybe they use the same formulation in Spain and maybe another poster can clarify but whenever I travelled I always took enough formula for the trip plus a few spares as it just wasn't worth it.

This might be useful. Tells you spanish name and where you can buy it. Not sure how current it is though.
