Comfort sucking?

Hi,

I've tried changing position today to help with my nipple issues but now I'm wondering if DS is just comfort sucking.

Normally he only feeds for ten minutes max before coming off and fussing, but I've moved him to be under my arm (rugby style) and he feed for about 30 minutes. After the initial quick and deep sucks which last for about five minutes, he went really dosey.

He kept doing bursts and soft but quick sucks and then stopping again. I don't know if he was actually feeding or just comfort sucking.

How much sensation do others normally feel whilst feeding? Does the above sound normal?

That sounds like comfort sucking in the end, but before that he will have still been feeding just more slowly. He might usually pull off when the flow slows down, but with this position he perhaps perservered for longer.

There's nowt wrong with comfort sucking as long as you have the time and it doesn't make you sore. When my DD is properly feeding her jaw moves a lot in quite a regular pattern of sucks and swallows. She does a LOT of comfort sucking, but it's the only time she sleeps so I tend to go with it.
