Help! Bottle refusal and how much milk does 8mo actually need?

Hi, I am trying to get DS off the breast and onto formula as I'm going back to work soon. Instead of his bedtime breastfeed tonight I gave him a bottle of formula - cue screaming tantrums resulting in him in such a tizz he was sick. He calmed down and lay on my lap chewing the bottle for a while but eventually nodded off without taking any of the milk. As I'm breastfeeding him through the day I don't know how much milk he is getting but he generally has 2 decent (15 minute) feeds plus he has 4oz formula in his breakfast cereal. Is this enough? I'm wondering if he just used the bedtime breastfeed for comfort but am also worried about starving him! He eats really well btw and I give what I believe is a varied, balanced diet, he has cheese, yoghurt etc every day. Thanks

HI,

Just want to bump this as am interested in replies. My DD(7mo) is also refusing the bottle. She took it for nearly a week at one point but then changed her mind. NOw she just looks at a bottle and screams. She will take a bit from a sippy cup(about 1 to 2 oz) but then gets bored(you could try that as you will have to wean off the bottle anyway I presume).

At 7 months I still attempt four to five bfs a day. She will often refuse one or two of them and tends to feed really quickly, 5 mins(if that) on each boob. Her morning and tea time feed can last for about half an hour though. I too try to include a lot of dairy in her feed...They are suppose to get about 600mls a day at this point I believe.

Anyway..good luck. I shall watch this thread.
