how much breast milk to feed

Next week I am hoping to miss a feed and my dh will give my ds a bottle. As I have exclusively breastfed, I have no idea how much expressed milk I should give. Roughly how much will he need for one bottle feed? I don't want to leave him short but I'm not sure my ds would know when to stop with a bottle... Sorry, probably being a bit over-anxious.

When I did this I looked at the side of a tin of formula to get an idea of how much expressed milk to leave. Will depend on how old your ds is and how hungry a baby he is.

ps - he'll only take as much as he needs.

Sorry, forgot to say he's 17 weeks and a bit of a gutbag.

i would say leave 6-8 oz and he'll take as much or as little - wont need any more than that!

aero is right he will only take what he needs
can you squeeze out 7 ounces?, why not start freezinng EBM in 2 or 4 ounce portions and get dh to have a 2 ounce portion on standby just in case your gutbag is really ravenous?

Ds has just started sleeping through the night so I express before bed and have started freezing milk in preparation for my big day out. They're puny little bags but I'll put a few together for a bottle. It's quite exciting but scary to miss a feed after so long. Thanks for the advice, I'll make sure there's plenty and trust him not to pop.
