Slow feeder

Hi everyone
I'm quite new to mumsnet and wondered if anyone can help :)
My DS3 is nearly 3 months old and takes ages to feed - he is bf and can take over an hour. This is all well and good, but I have 2 older DSs, who need taking to and fetching from school and it's getting more difficult (and stressful) to juggle it all! I really really don't want to FF and wondered if anyone has any tips about speeding things up a little? The other 2 were also BF, but were nowhere near as slow...

Have you tried feeding him in a sling? Then you'll have your hands free to do other stuff and you can feed him while you're walking to school to pick up your other DSs.

I never bothered learning to feed in a sling when DD was tiny because I didn't have a good enough reason to get off the sofa Grin but I am going to try with the next DC because you can get so many other things done.

I bet someone with experience will have some practical tips on how to do it...

hi seriouslyoutnumbered and welcome to mn Smile

Tbh i think my ds fed for that kind of time at three months, but soon started going longer between feeds, and then the feeds themself got shorter too (though he still has a marathon in the evening at seven months) But the thing that came to mind was maybe waiting a bit longer to feed if your lo will let you get away with it. I find if we are a little late feeding and my boobs are really full i get a really fast, gushing let down and ds doesn't take that long to fill up. Perhaps swapping sides so you get a let down from that one too might help. I'd think this is only worth trying if your supply is nicely established.

Hopefully someone will be able to tell us if this is an ok suggestion or not. There are some real experts around here somewhere...

Good work for bfing with two older dcs too! Smile

Have you had the latch checked? A tweak may make him more efficient / faster...

EauRouge - he only just tolerates the sling so I don't think he would feed in it, but thanks for the tip

organiccarrotcake - I haven't had the latch checked, would that be something that someone at a bf cafe or similar would do?

MoonFaceMama - He does seem better when my boobs are rock hard fuller and has actually done very well today, with his first 2 feeds of the day being around 25mins, rather than 45-60mins... Maybe he's turning a corner!
