Mastitis?

Me again, sorry Grin

Anyway, so leading on from my previous thread, this afternoon I noticed a small (sorry, TMI) puss filled hole just under my right nipple. Went to the doctor, showed him, and he said he couldn't see it though did say he had poor eye sight (!), but if it was pussing, then it was infected, and so was mastitis.

I've taken the prescription, and have started the antibiotics, but am slightly cynical. I have no other symptoms - no blotchy patch, no heat, etc - and plus the fact it is actually my nipple / areola not the breast tissue that is hurting, am really not sure what to think.

Any advice / experiences?

Doesn't sound like mastitis to me, any flu like symptoms? I've felt like crap both times I've it and had nothing like you describe. Sounds like it's more related to the nipple biting you previously described, maybe the antibiotics will help anyway? Sorry not much help.

Seems more likely to be related to the biting- if you got a nick it could be infected. Finish the course of antibiotics. Hopefully it will start to feel better soon.

No flu like symptoms at all - have had the startings of it before and felt rubbish then. This feels totally different.

I'm glad you agree with me. Obviously didn't want to question the doctor before he gave me the drugs as he was trying to help, but it just isn't sitting right.

My nipple and areola are still very painful, and the hole / puss thing is still there, hasn't changed since this afternoon.

Is it too early to call LLL do you think? Am in so much pain this morning (still).

Call them. I would have expected the antibiotics to have started to give you a little bit of relief by now.

Hope you rang and got some advice! :)
I have read some of your previous threads and you seem to have had some bad expriences over the time!
Feel better soon, this sounds nasty :(

Spoke to a lovely lady, who said she didn't think it sounded like mastitis but didn't know what it was. Advised me to pop along to a local breastfeeding group so think I'm going to have to drag myself out :( Said to take vit. C and pro-biotic yoghurt.

The hole seems slightly bigger this morning Confused Its hurting to the point that I couldn't even wind DS last night, and can barely pick him up this morning. Am getting a bit concerned.

This sounds similar to what I've had recently.

Got treated for mastitis but my DS had sucked the crap out of my nipple by himself so it cleared up. About 10 days later it came back and now I'm being treated for thrush (1st day of treatment today).

My nipple swelled up on one side of the tip and could see white/yellowy fluid underneath. Then after DS sucked it out, I've got a little hole which I guess must be the pore.

I'm not convinced it's thrush, but figure I'll take the treatment just in case. I thought it seemed more like a nipple blister.

I have found that if I do a rugby hold on that breast, DS will clear the pore much quicker...

I had both mastitis and a blocked milk duct/milk blister. Both were very painful and unpleasant but very different. The blocked milk duct/milk blister was quite persistent and caused lots of pain and sensitivity in my nipple and areola. A few weeks after this became a real problem (I had had the milk blister for a very long time and it would come and go a bit) I did go on and develop full blown mastitis, which was horrid, extremely painful, huge temperature and very ill feeling. How linked the two were I don't really know, but after hefty Abx for the mastitis both problems resolved and never returned. Hope you get things sorted soon. MPD
