Does it really matter which breast do you start feeding from?

DD is almost 14 months ols and for the last two weeks she has been choosing which breast she wants to start feeding from which I found really funny and nice. However I just wondered if this is going to have an impact on my milk supply as I have always started with the breast she finished the last from the previous feed. Am I making sense? Hmm

She has 3 or 4 feeds per day, she loves mummy's milk, and doesn't seem we will be stopping any time soon. So I am just looking from some advice and I guess reassurance that everything will be ok and I should just trust the initiative when choosing which breast she wants Wink

TIA to all of you

I think it will be fine. I had no idea what one I fed from last after about six months.

Does she feed from both sides each time, if yes, then by 14 months I would not worry.

If she takes more from the first side and little or none from the second, then you might find yourself with odd sized breasts!

Your supply will adjust to her demands, so she will get the nutition she needs

Enjoy every day of your special reltionship, its not the time to impose 'rules' about which side tbh

:)

Well, DD is 21 months and also likes to choose (sometimes she even says please!), and I've found that she tends to choose the fullest one by some kind of instinct. The only thing that tends to happen if I feed from the 'wrong' side is that the non-feeding side sometimes leaks a little.

Thank you for all your replies. She feeds from both sides and although she doesn't talk yet always points to the one she wants first.

It is reassuring that it is not a big deal which breast she feeds from first.

Thank you again
