Fussy feeding in the evening?

Wondering if anyone can help? My six week feeds really well most of the day but in the late afternoon/early evening become really fussy on the bottle. He seems really hungry but pulls off the bottle every ten seconds or so arching his back and screaming - anyone have any idea why this would be? I thought it could be reflux but surely then it would be evident at other times of day?

Thanks!

Snap - I've been having the same problem. DD2 is 8 weeks old today and been doing as you describe for the past few weeks. Sometimes she cries herself out, other times she fills her nappy (and I mean really fills it!), other times she just seems to want to be awake for longer than I'd like in the evenings.

I mix feed but have found that she has the same trouble whether the bedtime feed is bottle or breast.

So, no answer just sympathy!

Fio i don't think it's colic as it's only really when she's having her late afternoon/early evening feed - i.e only lasts about 20 mins.

Cbmum glad to know i'm not alone have my HV coming round tomorrow so am going to ask her but not sure there will be any answer, probably just a fussy phase?!

If you get an answer from your HV can you let me know? I'd just put it down to being one of those things but it'd be helpful if there is a solution as trying to deal with a fussy baby and 2 year old is somewhat tricky - especially as I have to do bedtime on my own as DH isn't home from work in time Sad

Sure will do! Also have to do bedtime on my own so i feel your pain!

Saw the HV today and she just put it down to being over tired!

He was much worse today though and i really struggled with every feed - going to take him to the doctors next week as all the symptems suggest reflux.

Many babies under 3 months are fussy & unsettled in the evenings. Some have it very badly - which is colic - but some are just fussy at a lower level / for a shorter time.

There are theories that it's to do with an immature system just getting used to life outside the womb.

It usually peaks at 6-8 weeks and disappears by around 3 months (sometimes 4/5 months in the case of bad colic). It affects both bf and ff babies.
