How to stop breastfeeding - any advice?

I have decided, with sadness, to give up breastfeeding now, having just started treatment for a second agonising bout of ductul thrush. The pain is so excrutiating to the point of actually yelling out loud, and normal doses of paracetamol do not touch it.

Fortunately DD3 (5 months) happily takes a bottle of formula, so I don't think she will miss it too much, although I don't know yet if she will be upset at the change. Has anyone else stopped quite rapidly and how did it affect the baby?

Can anyone advise on a safe schedule to reduce feeds? I don't want to take any medication to "dry up". Is dropping one feed every four days ok? I am worried about blocked ducts and mastitis as I also have a history of these with this baby.

Thanks for any advice.

When I gave up BF with my son I dropped just one feed at a time just like you said, sorry can't remeber how many days it was until I dropped another feed but was just when you stop feeling so full, no you won't need to take any medication if your dropping one feed at a time, I gave up fairly quickly just a couple of weeks after BFing for 6 months I was surprised how well my body adapted back to normal but I would seek reasurrance from your H.V as you've had a history of blocked ducts and mastitis, maybe someone else will advise how they gave up ok after having these problems?
